It was an awesome experience!

Hey guys… here I come, for every beginning there must be an end. It was an awesome experience having this opportunity to learn what I couldn’t have learnt in the classroom regarding hi- tech industry. I was able to build on my existing skills while contributing globally to Dell’s growth.
The feedback from my manager after my ten-minutes final presentation to the executives on my 11-weeks summer project, was a reflection of my performances, as I quote “solid impression…Patrick….good speed and tone…congrats…you grow under pressure”!  Well I wouldn’t expect anything less than that from him because in last two weeks to the final presentation, the course of my project changed more than four times which put me under intensive pressure. This was no one’s fault but the complexity of the project and dynamic nature of the industry.
This summer project has offered me more than enough opportunities to learn beyond my imagination. I was able to leverage my interpersonal skill to grow my network within Dell and hi-tech industry at large. I have tremendously built on my ability to collaborate with team in order to get my assignment done at as when due. Working under pressure has been the order of the day for the past ten weeks, which has greatly informed my fast learning and growing ability. Also I have been able to take advantage of the fortnightly project update presentations to develop my power point knowledge and presentation skill.
I would love to mention what I would have done differently, considering the short period of summer project; probably I should have pushed my manager to narrow down my project scope from the beginning which could have given me ample time to be deeper in a particular area.
However, it was great working with awesome people at Dell.

The Dynamic Nature of Hi-Tech World!

Hey guys, at this point of my intern in Hi-Teach industry, having spent nine weeks out of eleven and having awesome opportunity to work on a global project, analyzing investment opportunity attractiveness across top developed and growing countries has greatly developed my industry knowledge. Hi-Tech is the engine room of all sectors of economics, thus show how relevant and dynamic the industry is. This also makes environment more competitive and the industry players have to be equipped for the technological challenges. For instance, we imagine how personal computer has evolved in recent time, from desktop computer to laptop; from laptop to tablet; tablet to mobile device within a decade. So it’s important for business investment planning in this industry to be very critical, detailed and consider unforeseen changes that might affect your implementations. 

  

The industry gives a holistic view of available business opportunities in different markets in terms of country, sector and segment of economics. As a technology company, it’s more equipped to take advantage of the future opportunities by providing products, solutions and services to different sectors and consumers.

Dell as a player in this industry has a very open culture which gives her more competitive advantage. It gives employees opportunity to develop innovative and creative ideas and management has been so supportive promoting such ideas, most importantly now that Dell is increasing her perceptions from hardware to end to end solution. Dell’s greatest asset is the people because they are very collaborative in nature. They are always all out to assist one another in achieving goals. Also Dell has a very flexible working culture that allows you to work from home and it’s also a family friendly working environment.  

Balancing work and life…!
Hey guys… I’m back to give an account of my social life. Having spent six weeks as a marketing intern, the going is getting tough.  My manager is keen about deliverables now as I am due for mid-project presentation.  An eight-hour working day seems not to be enough for me any longer that I sometimes stay back after working hours to work. After five weeks of gathering data, marketing research and strategy brainstorming, it’s now time to put my thought together and analyze all related data. Also my project requires that I develop about two models. Practically a typical day is occupied with series of meetings from one on one to group and brainstorming sessions. However I have been able to achieve 50% of my project.

Despite my work’s tight schedule, I have managed to create sometime for social life outside office hours most especially during the weekends because I know the important of balancing work with life.  There are a lot of places in Texas to have fun and are family friendly. Last weekend I was in Dallas Zoo with my family. It was fun! My kids had an awesome time in Dallas. I have gone hiking and swimming within Austin with my family and fellow interns as well.

I have been able to leverage my series of meetings to build network within Dell community. Also there are a lot of social events like happy hours; speaker’s series to mention a few that provides platforms for socializing and networking within the organization. As an international candidate changing career, it’s quite important to take advantage of these events to learn about America and Dell work culture while building industry knowledge.
